Masterpiece Theater [Masterpiece Theater] BrE NAmE
a US television series on ↑PBS showing many of the best British programmes. It began in 1971 and was presented by Alistair Cooke until 1994. The programmes have included ↑Upstairs, Downstairs (1974–7), ↑Jewel in the Crown (1984) and The Buccaneers (1997).
