Monty Python’s Flying Circus [Monty Pythons Flying Circus] BrE NAmE
a ↑BBC television comedy series (1969–74). It was extremely popular with young people, especially students, and its strange, wild and silly humour had a big influence on British comedy. It consisted of sketches (= short comic plays) with no logical connection. Among the most well known of these are the ↑dead parrot sketch and the Ministry of Silly Walks. It was written and performed by a team of people who had met at Oxford or Cambridge Universities. Today the most famous of these are John Cleese and Michael Palin.
