This term was once almost synonymous with CD-ROM in the personal computer world because the large amounts of data involved were best supplied on CD-ROM. DVDs and broadband Internet connections have now largely replaced CDs as the means of delivery. A "multimedia PC" typically includes software for playing DVD video, 5.1 audio hardware and can display video on a television. It may also include a television receiver and software to record broadcast television to disk and play it back.
